The country's attitude towards safety is evident in their driving habits and logical driving paradigm. Mexican drivers operate vehicles in a very different standard than U.S. citizens due to the rush hours of Mexico City, just like Atlanta city drivers operate their cars. If you are an overseas operator, then you need an International Driving License to drive vehicles in Mexico.
In Mexico, you need a Driver's License in the
English language. But if you don't have in your license in English, then you
need an International Driving License or an official translation in English.
You must always carry your current overseas Driver's License or International Driving Permit while driving in Mexico. You should be a minimum of 21 age to
rent a car in Mexico. If your age is between 21-25, then
for driver's license, you have to pay Young Driver Fee, or if you are 65 or
above, later pay Senior Driver Fee.
Rules of the Mexico City Roads:
The rules in Mexico are a little different from
those in the USA, so if you've never driven in Mexico before, then I will tell
you about those rules you must follow to avoid any accidents and emergencies:
Avoid driving at night: If possible, avoid driving at night. At
night, there are a lot of animals, vehicles without taillights on the road, and
the road fatalities are higher at night, which increases the risk of having an
accident.
Turn signals: In México, the turn signal means "you can
pass:" Before making a decision, look out for intersections up as another driver may use this as a turn signal.
Do Not Try To Bribe Police Officers: In Mexico, if you're pulled over trying to
bribe the officers, this could land you in a lot of trouble because it is
technically illegal in the country.
Don't panic if you break down at night: If you stuck in a remote area at night,
then don't panic, just close windows, lock doors of your vehicle and rest in
your backseat until morning and next day take a lift from other people and call
mechanic to repair your vehicle.
