Apply for an International Drivers License

Where to apply?
Issued through state and territory motoring clubs. To obtain an International Driving Permit please contact the relevant IDP authority in your state.
  • New South Wales and Australian Capital Territory – NRMA Motoring and Services
  • Queensland – RACQ Ltd.(Royal Automobile Club of Queensland Limited)
  • Victoria – RACV (Royal Automobile Club of Victoria)
  • South Australia – RAA (Royal Automobile Association of South Australia, Inc)
  • Western Australia – RAC (Royal Automobile Club of Western Australia (Incorporated)
  • Tasmania – RACT (Royal Automobile Club of Tasmania Limited)
  • Northern Territory – AANT (Automobile Association of Northern Territory Inc) 


 Documents required
  1. A valid Australian Drivers License (either provisional or full license)
  2. A copy of your valid Australian Drivers License (front and back)
  3. A recent (no more than two years old) passport sized photograph, similar size to your passport, no larger than 3.5cm x 4.5cm. Please note: for the photo to be valid it needs to be on photographic paper.
  4. Complete the International Driving Permit application form

Procedure
Visit your local NRMA office where it can be issued over the counter whilst you wait or simply complete the International Driving Permit application form and post it to NRMA.
Expected time
3-7 working days.
Validity
1 year.
